January Low – Shades of Love

Shades of Love by January Low collaboration with Reza Salleh Rimbun Dahan 2011 Music : Reza Salleh Dance : January Low Inspired by the Ashta Nayika (Eight Heroines), January will interpret this classical piece, which describes the 8 different moods of women. The eight are Swadhinabhatrika, Vasakasajjika, Virahothkanditha, Khanditha, Vipralabdha, Proshitabhatrika, Kalahantarita and Abhisarika. All these women represent a different texture within the mood of love. She has also pulled in acoustic God, Reza Salleh who has worked with January to create a music score just for this piece. January Low, born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia started dancing with classical ballet, followed by 25 years of Indian classical dance training in Sutra Dance Theatre, Malaysia, focusing on Odissi. She returned to the stage a year after the birth of her twins, with works such as bloom (2016) which she performed when she was seven months pregnant, dedicated (2017), MI(X)G (2018) and reclaim (2019). Reza Salleh is an award-winning singer-songwriter based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His music has brought him to different stages around the region including Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and Taiwan where he performs a style of indie folk which is personal, contemplative and infectious. He is also the vocalist and primary songwriter for The Frankie Sixes, a swing jazz band with close ties to the KL lindy hop scene.
